"By Their Fruits Ye Shall Know Them" 2024
"By Their Fruits Ye Shall Know Them," is a visual narrative
of triumph over the chains of religious control, shame, guilt,
and purity culture. It encapsulates my personal journey of
gaining autonomy over my mind, body, and spirit by
delving into my own sexuality and embracing pleasure as a
guiding force.
The exhibit goes beyond the traditional art-viewing
experience, breaking down the pedestal on which artwork is
often placed. I interact intimately with the sculptures,
forming a personal connection that goes beyond just
observation. This intentional interaction with the sculptures
puts me in a space of vulnerability and personal power,
allowing me to choose how, when, and in what way I
connect with the art—a visual and physical representation of
autonomy.
This body of work is an assertion that the difference between
feeling bound or free is, at its core, a matter of consent. I
hope to inspire reflection on the role of autonomy, consent,
and vulnerability in breaking free from oppressive structures
and embracing the power and pleasure of our authentic
selves.
