Anita Becerra - Contemporary Artist
Anita Becerra is a San Antonio-based contemporary artist whose work explores themes of feminism, sexuality, immigration, agricultural corruption, religious trauma, body autonomy, and her Honduran-American identity. Her art reflects the intersection of personal experiences and collective struggles, challenging patriarchal oppression and reclaiming narratives around body autonomy and consent.
In addition to her abstract and conceptual pieces, Becerra teaches ceramics at a local community center, helping individuals discover their creative voice, and collaborates with nonprofits to provide children a safe space to express themselves through art.
Her solo exhibition Overripe was awarded "Best of Contemporary Art Month" in 2020 and was acquired by ART Museum TX in 2021. In 2024, she installed her first public sculpture at “The Creamery” along the San Antonio River, a reflection of the community's history and environment. Through her art and community engagement, Becerra creates spaces for reflection and dialogue on autonomy, oppression, and power
